ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANK INSPECTIONS

The July 17, 2002, revision of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Act strengthened the requirements for facilities to conduct integrity testing of aboveground storage tanks (AST) and piping on a regular basis using recognized industry standards.  The EPA has established a new compliance deadline of November 10, 2011, and all owners of AST systems regulated under the SPCC Act will need to meet the new integrity testing standards by this deadline.  The revised SPCC rules specifically reference the Steel Tank Institute (STI) Standard SP001 "Standard for the Inspection of Aboveground Storage Tanks" as one of the industry standards for conducting tank inspections.  In fact, the STI Standard SP001 is gaining wide acceptance as the most prudent, practical, and cost-effective means for inspection of shop-built and field-erected tanks under 50,000 gallons.

RMEC provides AboveGround Storage Inspections (AST) integrity testing and inspection services under the STI SP001 standards to clients throughout Utah, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Wyoming.  RMEC's STI-certified AST Inspectors can provide a timely and cost-effective means of meeting the tank and pipe inspection requirements.  In addition to our inspection services, RMEC's staff of environmental professionals can assist in the development, revision, and/or evaluation of SPCC Plans for new and/or existing facilities.
